NigeriaDecides 2023: INEC Declares Abiodun Winner Of Ogun Gov'ship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Ogun State. 

He defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer,   Mr Oladipupo Adebutu to retain the much-touted seat. 

The INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, announced the result on Sunday in Abeokuta, the state capital. 

“That Abiodun Adedapo Oluseun of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected,” Adebowale, who is also Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, added. 

He hinted that Abiodun defeated his closest rival, Adebutu, who scored 262, 382 votes.
This was even as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Biyi Otegbeye placed third with 94, 754 votes.

The results revealed that Abiodun won in 12 council areas, while Adebutu won in eight out of the 20 local governments in the state.

Abiodun won in Ijebu-Ode; Odeda; Egbado North; Egbado South; Ewekoro; Ijebu North; Abeokuta North, Ipokia, Imeko Afon, Ado Odo-Ota, Obafemi Owode and Ifo.

But Adebutu won in Sagamu; Abeokuta South; Odogbolu; Ikenne; Ijebu North East; Ijebu East; Ogun Waterside and Remo North local government areas. 

The registered voters were 2 ,688,305, while accredited voters were 666, 406. The number of valid votes stood at 645, 133, rejected votes 18,835 while the votes cast was 663, 968.

Emerging Diseases: EHCON Faults Health Workers For Neglecting PPEs
