Why Labour Suspended Minimum Wage Strike - Ajaero

Members of the organised labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have suspended the nationwide industrial action for five days.  This was contained in a communique jointly signed by the President of NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Festus Osifo at the end of a joint National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday in Abuja.  Recall that organised labour declared an indefinite nationwide strike beginning from midnight of June 2, over the failure of the Federal Government to raise the proposed minimum wage from N60,000 and reverse the electricity tariff hike from N225/kwh to N65/kwh. News Rider reports that after a six-hour meeting with the leadership of organised labour in Abuja on Monday night, the Federal Government promised to raise the N60,000 offered as the new minimum wage.
