The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cancelled the Saturday’s rerun election for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State. This, the electoral body linked to widespread violence, snatching of election materials and continued disruption of voting process in 17 polling units. Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom, Dr Cyril Omorogbe, informed journalists in Uyo that the election was cancelled in all the 17 polling units due to snatching of electoral materials, including Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) machines. He said that elections were conducted in four local government areas and one major election was for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency. “We were there early enough and at about 8:30 a.m., polling units were opened.
