FG To Train 10,000 Civil Servants On Data Management

The Federal Government has concluded plans to train 10, 000 civil servants on effective data management.

Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani disclosed this on Friday in Abuja during the Devsin Government programme organised for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Recall that the ministry recently inaugurated a free online data management course for civil servants, which was designed to roll out the incoming training programme tagged: “Responsible Data Management in the Public Sector."

Tijani revealed that the course is expected to equip public servants on the fundamentals of ethical data management that bridged the theoretical aspects of the Nigerian Data Protection Act, 2003.

He pointed out that the free course will commence with 10,000 civil servants in order to equip them on effective data management.

“We live in a time when digital technology means that we are constantly collecting data and information on people; if we are careless with the data collected, we are going to put our people at risk.

“We have to enlighten people and as we continue, there will be improvement on how people handle data within the country,” he added.

The National Commissioner of Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji noted that data benefits the public through several key principles.

Olatunji, who was represented by the Head, Research and Development of NDPC, Dr Tolulope Pius-Fadipe hinted that the principles set the primary legal framework for data protection and privacy in Nigeria.

Plastic Waste Project: AEPB Targets N10.5m Revenue Monthly
