Thousands Displaced, Inmates Escape As Flood Sweeps Maiduguri

                            Houses submerged by flood in Maiduguri on Tuesday         At least, thousands of residents have been displaced while several inmates escaped as fast-moving waters led to heavy flooding that swept more than 70 percent of  Maiduguri metropolis, the Borno State capital.  The flood also ravaged other major locations in the city, including the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Umar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi, Lagos Area, Monday Market and  cemetery.  Also, the state secretariat, post office, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and Maiduguri Zoo popularly called Sanda Kyarimi Park Zoo were some of the critical infrastructure submerged by the flood on Tuesday.  Some of the inmates allegedly drowned while several others escaped when a prison wall located along the Custom area was destroyed by the flood.  The flooding, which many described ...

100 Die As ISWAP, Boko Haram Terrorists Clash

An intense supremacy battle between Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram rival faction have resulted to the death of over 100 terrorists in the Lake Chad region.  The incident occurred on the island of Toumbun Gini in Abadam Local Government Area on August 3, 2024.  News Rider reports that the violent clashes resulted in territorial shifts in the North Eastern Lake Chad region of Borno State. A Counter-insurgency Expert and Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this via his X handle on Monday.  According to him, sources revealed that the Bakoura (aka Abu Umaima)-led JAS Buduma fighters launched a surprise attack on the ISWAP faction positioned on the shores of their headquarters at Toumbun Gini, resulting in severe losses for ISWAP, with over 90 members killed.  Makama disclosed that JAS lost 10 fighters while others fled with bullet wounds. Violence Mars Abuja, Kano #EndBadGovernance Protest As Borno Turns Bloody

The nationwide hunger and hardship protest,  #EndBadGovernance was marred with violence in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kano.  Sources disclosed that the protesters had gathered around the Eagles Square as against the court order that restricted their protest to Moshood Abiola Stadium on Thursday in Abuja.  Justice Sylvanus Oriji had on Wednesday issued the order barring protesters while ruling in an ex-parte application brought before him by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike. Despite the order, angry protesters marched to the Eagles Square, the initial venue planned for the protest.
