US Climate Reporting Tour Begins With 49 Journalists

US Climate Reporting Tour Begins With 49 Journalists
BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja

The United States climate change reporting tour commenced today with 49 journalists selected by the U.S. Embassies and Consulates across the geographic region including Nigeria.
The 3-week programme, with the theme, "Combatting the Climate Crisis through U.S. Innovations Virtual Reporting Tour", is organised by Foreign Press Centers (FPC), an arm of the U.S. Department of State in collaboration with Meridian International Center.
A statement by the FPC revealed that the virtual programme would enable journalists to examine the US efforts towards promoting international cooperation in developing and expanding the diverse traditional and alternative sources of energy.

President Buhari
Scientists had projected that by 2050, climate stressors such as hurricanes, wildfires, drought, extreme heat and flooding from rising seas could compel between 25 million and 1 billion people around the world to leave their homes and jobs behind.
To this end, the United States has taken unprecedented efforts to reduce carbon pollution, promote cleaner sources of energy, mitigate climate impact, and promote international efforts to address global climate change.
The programme includes on-the-record press briefings with climate change issues' experts, analysts, and government officials, as well as exclusive access to interviews and videos from Washington, D.C., Michigan and Colorado.

"We are excited to provide this exclusive opportunity to 49 journalists from all geographic regions, specifically from countries affected by demands to reduce emissions standards and seeking solutions to energy challenges", the statement reads.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
