Cubana, Ikegwuonwu, Others Honour Late Matriach, Nwabunike

The Chairman of Cubana Group, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana and Chairman/CEO of St. Aloy’s Oil and Gas Limited, High Chief Aloysius Nnamdi Ikegwuonu (Bishop Ozubulu) were part of the dignitaries that bid farewell to the late Matriach, Mrs Maria Adaobi Nwabunike (Iju Wagon) nee Chukwuma.
The event attracted political associates, friends and well-wishers of Nwabunike's family yesterday in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra State.

Nwabunike, who is the mother of National President, Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Hon Iju Tony Nwabunike, died at the age of 91 after a brief illness.
She was interred at her residence, Late Chief Johnny Okafor's compound, Ezenwelike village, Ukunu-Eziora Ozubulu after a requiem mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ukunu-Eziora Ozubulu.
This was followed with a massive reception at Ukunu football field and the church's premises.

Other dignitaries that graced the occasion included the National Music Director, National Catholic Liturgical Music Council of Nigeria, Sir Jude Nnam; members, Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), traditional rulers, clergy men and women, women and youth groups, cultural groups and among others.

Late Nneora Nwabunike popularly called Iju Wagon was born on March 30, 1930 into the family of Chief and Mrs Micheal Obi Chukwuma of Umuegbuezi quarters, Ogbe Odua, Aboh kingdom in Ndokwa East local government area, Delta State.
After her father's death, she joined her mother's trading and sowing business at Northage street Onitsha in Anambra State.
She married Chief Johnny Okafor Nwabunike, an educationist at the age of 17 and wedded on the 27th May, 1947.
Nwabunike started her political journey with the then Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe- led NCNC. She later became prominent in politics when she joined the late Aminu Kano-led People's Redemption Party (PRP) as woman leader in the old Anambra State.
She mobilised women in Ozubulu and formed a dance troupe. As the leader of the dance group, her steps, speed and accuracy was described as the then Peugeot 504 Wagon, which earned her the sobriquet, Iju Wagon.
The late matriach is survived by eight children, two sons-in-law, six daughters-in-law and a sister.
