BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja

L-R: National President, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ejezie Emeka Rollas; Actor Chiwetalu Agu and AGN Communication Director, Monalisa Chinda, shortly after the release of Agu from DSS custody yesterday.

The Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN), yesterday secured the release of veteran Nollywood Actor, Chiwetalu Agu from the detention of the Department of State Services (DSS).

This was made known in statement via their official Instagram page titled, ‘Chiwetalu Agu released to Actors Guild Of Nigeria.’

The statement, which was signed by AGN Communication Director, Monalisa Chinda reads, "The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ejezie Emeka Rollas has yet again secured the release of Actor, Chiwetalu Agu from the custody of the DSS ".

“On behalf of the Guild, I was at the DSS office with my colleague, the Senior Special Assistant on Military Affairs and Inter-Governmental Relations to the President, Steve Eboh to receive Mr. Agu today (yesterday)".

“The elated veteran actor thanked God for surviving the ordeal and commended the leadership of the Guild headed by Ejezie Emeka Rollas for their relentless efforts in securing his release from the detention".

Agu was first arrested by the Nigerian Army on October 7, 2021, at Upper Iweka in Onitsha, Anambra State, for wearing a Biafra regalia while distributing bread and other items to the less privileged.

Military spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, had said in a statement that Agu was picked up for questioning while inciting members of the public to join the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which had been proscribed by the federal government.

He was subsequently handed over to the DSS for investigation and prosecution.

Before his re-arrest,  Agu had insisted that the regalia he wore was that of the 'rising sun', and that he had gone to Upper Iweka as part of his routine to identify with the poor.

He insisted that he never canvassed for support for the IPOB.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
