Nnamdi Kanu: FG Moves Against Terrorism Financiers
BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja
The federal government has taken a swipe over terrorism financiers given the recent arrests of Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Adeyemo, adding that ongoing investigations revealed that certain high-profile financiers are behind the individuals.
President Muhammadu Buhari stated this yesterday during the nationwide broadcast to mark Nigeria's 61st independence anniversary.
He described their ploy as a clear example of abandoning national leadership positions for selfish gains, saying that instead of preaching unity, they are funding and misleading the youths to conduct criminal acts that leads to unfortunate and unnecessary loss of lives and properties.
According to him, "As the so-called leaders run abroad to hide, our innocent youths are misled and left in the streets to fight for their senseless and destructive causes".
"Government will continue, with greater level of peoples’ participation and in collaboration with our international partners, to improve the security architecture, reduce enabling environment for criminality to thrive and eliminate opportunities for terrorism financing", he added.
Buhari said that Nigeria's unity is not negotiable as its ultimate success could only be achieved if Nigerians come together with a common goal of achieving peace and prosperity for the nation.
He assured that the federal government would continue to work on dialogue- based solutions to address legitimate grievances, promising to take decisive actions against secessionist agitators and their sponsors that threaten national security.
