The federal government has called on Kano residents to maintain peace as erosion-control project commences in Gafasa community, Ajingi local government area, Kano State.

Scope of the project includes embarkment and construction of six channels that would provide adequate water supply for farmers while enhancing irrigation farming in the community.

Speaking at the flag off of the project, the Permanent Secretary of Ecological Project Office (EPO) Dr. Habiba Lawal pleaded with the residents to cooperate with the contractors for timely delivery of the project within the scheduled period of six months.

She said the sensitisation was targeted at building bridges of understanding between EPO, contractors and host community, with a view to resolving issues that might hinder the progress of work.

Lawal, who was represented by the Director of Press & Public Relation, EPO, Dr. Joel Oruche enjoined the community to shun rancor, violence, extortion and conspiracy against contractors and the federal government, as no project would be executed in any community that is notorious for harassing contractors.

The permanent secretary urged the community to protect and sustain the project so that the resources which the federal government invested in the project would be gainfully utilised.

Lawal assured the community that the contractor would engage some of their youths during the execution of the project.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Ajingi local government area, Alhaji Murtala Uba Danabiye commended the federal government for listening to the plight of the community by addressing the ecological challenges that bedeviled the community.

Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Sa’ad Jibrin Toranke, he  assured that the community would cooperate and give maximum support needed by the contractor for the project.

On his part, the project contractor, Engr. Samuel Adeyinka of Xenon Nigeria Limited  promised to complete the project within the specified period and to use quality building materials in constructing the project.
