Ecological Project Office Tasks Staff On Quality Service Delivery

BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja

                                                    Dr Habiba Lawal

In line with President Muhammadu Buhari's directive to institutionalise the Civil Service, the Ecological Project Office (EPO) has challenged its staff on the need to deliver quality services to Nigerians.

Permanent Secretary of EPO, Dr Habiba Lawal stated this in Abuja over the weekend in commemoration of the 2022 Nigeria Civil Service Day, with the theme, “Performance Management System (PMS): Impact on Productivity in the Nigeria Public Service”.

The event also coincided with the Recognition/Award Ceremony for outstanding staff of EPO for their meritorious performances in the service to humanity.

Lawal urged the staff to show more commitment in the discharge of their assigned duties, which she believed was in consonance with the new drive of the federal government on Performance Management System (PMS) in the public service.

She stated that the theme of this year’s celebration was one of the six pillars of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP) designed to transform the civil service.

The permanent secretary encouraged the staff to rededicate themselves to hardwork and improve on their weak areas, adding that the recognition was meant to spur them for more work.

Lawal assured that the management would continue to support officers in their chosen career irrespective of the lean resources and current economic downturn.

She cautioned staff to desist from compromising on service delivery and focus on improving their work schedules, just as she commended them for, "putting a name and face to the Ecological Project Office”.

Responding, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan lauded the permanent secretary and staff of EPO for maintaining a high level of Key Performance Indicator (KPIs).

Yemi-Esan, who was represented by the Director of Learning and Development (OHCSF), Mr Augustine Uzor said that projects undertaken by the EPO are verifiable across the country.

Also speaking, the Director of Special Duties, EPO, Dr Famous Eseduwo highlighted the painstaking efforts carried out by the committee to justify the selection process, saying that the exercise is a yearly event.

A statement made available to newsmen by the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations of EPO, Mrs Eno Olotu, encouraged the staff, who were unable to make the final list this year to double their commitment to official duties.

At the end, Assistant Director, Pollution Control Department, Mallam Manga Sani Mohammed bagged an award in the Directorate Cadre Category, while Head of Transport, Mr Bala Dele Mohammed and Clerical Officer 11, Mr Archibong Kufre Thompson were honoured in the Middle Cadre Category and Lower Cadre Category respectively.

The awardees were also presented with letters of commendation, plaques and gifts.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
