Catholic Diocese of Ondo on Friday held a funeral mass for members of St. Francis Catholic Church that were killed by terrorists in Owo, headquarters of Owo local government area.
The mass, which was conducted at the Mydas Event Centre in Owo, witnessed large turnout of mourners, families and sympathisers, who could not hold back their tears during the service.
Terrorists had on Sunday, 5th June, 2022 attacked the church and killed many worshippers, a massacre that was believed to be a retaliatory attack by pastorialist over feud with farmers on grazing in the state.
The remains of the victims were deposited at the morgue of the Saint Louis Catholic Hospital in Owo.
Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and a former governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko, were among the dignitaries present at the mass.
Also, the Bishop of Ondo Catholic Diocese, Jude Arogundade; Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah and other clergymen paid their last respect to the deceased.
Apart from the worshippers, bandits also killed passerby hit by stray bullets during the church’s Pentecost service.
