The Media Rights Agenda (MRA) has demanded the expose of the payment details of the 52 broadcast stations and platforms operating in Nigeria, as well as the actual license fees owed by each of the stations.
National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) had on 19th August revoked the licences of the 52 radio and television stations due to their inability to offset the licensing fees amounting to N2.66 billion.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja Monday, MRA's Communications Officer, Mr. Idowu Adewale said that the organisation requested the expose using the Freedom of Information Act, 2011
The FoI request was addressed to the Director-General of NBC, Mallam Balarabe Ilehah.
MRA sought the status of payment details of each of the stations from the date it was licensed to the date of the FoI request, adding that NBC should disclose the amount owed by the stations and the period covered by the amount.
The organisation also enjoined NBC to provide a breakdown of the debt owed by State-owned radio and television broadcasting corporations.
