Osun Assembly Moves Against Adeleke For Shunning State's Logo, Others

Osun State House of Assembly has moved against Governor Ademola Adeleke for shunning State logo and instead, opted for Ngeria's coat of arm logo.

This is even as the pulpit of the Governor also carried an emblem that is not the State logo.
In addition, the State flags were removed and replaced with those of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Government Office, Abere. The PDP flags were also hoisted at Oke-Fia park.

Other changes include the reversal of the slogan and name of the State as well as non-compliance to rendition of State anthem.

At his inaugural speech on Monday, Gov Adeleke issued an Executive Order, reversing the name of the State from ‘State of Osun’ to Osun State.

He also changed the slogan of ‘State of Virtue’ to ‘State of Living Spring’.

But BOblog  observed that the State anthem was not rendered at the swearing in of Adeleke’s appointees on Monday.

To this end, the State Assembly has cautioned Adeleke, saying  that the usage of the State Anthem, Crest and Flag were enacted into law.

The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Publicity, Moshood Akande on Tuesday, said that having reviewed the inaugural speech of the Governor and the activities of the inauguration, that lawmakers resolved that the State shall and will continue to be described as the State of the Virtuous (Ipinle Omoluabi).

He noted that the enactment of ‘State of Osun Anthem, Crest and Flag Law, 2012’ assented to on the 18th of December, 2012,  was contained in Schedule I, Il, Ill, IV and V, which carefully detailed every component of the law.

Akande stated that Schedule I is the State Anthem while Schedule II has to do with the State Crest, saying that Schedule III contained the symbolic elements in the Flag.

He noted that lawmakers are conversant with a court judgment recognising 'Osun State'.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
