Court Remands Killer Cop, ASP Vandi At Ikoyi Prison

ASP Drambi Vandi and late Female Lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem

A Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba has remanded a former police officer attached to Ajiwe Police Station in the Ajah area of Lagos State, ASP Drambi Vandi at Ikoyi Correctional Centre over the killing of a female lawyer, Mrs Omobolanle Raheem.

BOblog had reported that Omobolanle was returning from an eatery with some family members on Christmas Day, December 25 and had attempted to make a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge when a policeman shot at her vehicle.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs C.A. Adedayo, ordered that the suspect should be kept at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the advice of the state Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP,  Dr. Jide Martins.

She held that the remand order was for the first 30 days pending police investigation into the case.

Adedayo requested that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the DPP for legal advice.

Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), had appeared briefly before the court and applied that Vandi be remanded.

The commissioner prayed the court to remand the suspect pending the DPP’s advice.
Onigbanjo requested for the remand of Vandi pursuant to Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos, 2015.

He submitted that the basis for the remand was to allow the police to conclude investigation into the matter.

Attached to the remand application was a count charge of murder.

It stated: “That you, ASP Drambi Vandi, on Dec. 25, 2022 at Ajah Road, along the Lekki Expressway, Lagos, unlawfully killed one Omobolanle Raheem, by shooting the deceased in the chest, contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.″

The charge was signed by the DPP, Dr Babajide Martins.

The killer cop, ASP Vandi, was said to have spent 33 years in the police force before the unfortunate incident.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
