Gunmen suspected to be political thugs have set ablaze the country home of All Progress Congressive, APC, Chairman in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha.

BOblog gathered that the incident occurred on Monday at exactly 10.18pm at Ekoli Edda Community in Afikpo South Local Government Area, LGA, of Ebonyi State.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that Okoro-Emegha, had on Sunday, kicked against the election of a youth group in the community.

It was learnt that the election led to the emergence of principal officers loyal to the immediate past chairman of Afikpo South LGA, Hon Eni Chima.

The source added that Okoro-Emegha was dissatisfied with the election and informed the new Council chairman, Hon Chima Ekumankama, who allegedly nullified the election and requested that the group should be disbanded.

But when the APC boss visited the community, the thugs allegedly opened fire on him and his orderlies comprising of Ebebeagu operatives, which led to the exchange of gun duel.

Okoro-Emegha tactically pulled out during the exchange of gun battle when he discovered that the thugs had overpowered his orderlies. He headed straight to Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital to seek extra protection.

He was in Abakaliki when some persons informed him that his country home was set ablaze by gunmen suspected to be political thugs.

Confirming the incident, Okoro-Emegha said that he was attacked by thugs loyal to a politician in the area, adding that his house was equally burnt by the miscreants.

He said: “Yes. It’s true. They attacked me tonight at Ekoli Edda community, and the same people, some of whom I know, I have just heard, burnt my house.

“These are Eni’s boys; they attacked me and they are the people that burnt my house", he added.

He called on the police and other security agencies to swing into action and unravel the truth behind the incident.

The Ebonyi State Police Command is yet to respond to the incident as of the time of filling this report.
