Slain Lagos Lawyer Pregnant With Twins, Family Speaks

ASP Drambi Vandi and late Omobolanle Raheem

The deceased Lagos lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, who was killed by a trigger-happy policeman was seven-month pregnant with twins.

Younger brother to the slain lawyer identified as Raheem Ishola, confirmed that the sister was heavy with twins before the unavoidable incident.

He noted that Omobolanle was the firstborn of the family.

Raheem said that his sister's death rejuvenated very ugly scenarios, adding that its a sad moment for the family.

Omobolanle was returning from an eatery with some family members on Christmas Day and had attempted to make a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge when a policeman shot at her vehicle.

The cop, an officer attached to Ajiwe Police Station in the Ajah area of Lagos State, ASP Drambi Vandi, was said to have spent 33 years in the police force.

Narrating the ordeal, the victim’s husband, Gbenga, said:  “On December 25, my wife, nieces, nephews, and cousins, who had come for the holiday, all went to church. On our way back, my wife said since it was Christmas Day, we should take everyone out, so, we went to a supermarket at Abraham Adesanya, then to Domino’s Pizza.

“After that, we headed towards Ajah to do a U-turn to come back to Abraham Adesanya. When we took the U-turn, we saw policemen stopping some vehicles. As we approached them, they said we should stop, and in the process, we heard a loud sound on my wife’s side window. All of a sudden, I saw blood gushing out of her chest", he added.

Gbenga noted that he immediately alighted from the vehicle while his sister-in-law, who was with them, ran out and held the policeman, who also cocked his gun at her too.

He stated that talking to the cop was pointless, therefore, he started pondering over what could be done to save his wife who was already gasping for breath.

Gbenga disclosed that at that point, his sister-in-law had dragged the policeman into the car and pushed him into the front seat.

He said that they drove to a hospital which declined to accept her on the excuse that they couldn’t handle it, adding that he eventually took his 41-year-old wife to Grandville Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

Gbenga revealed that the policemen put her body in the truck and wanted him to follow them but he said that he needed to go and settle his children.

Omobolanle, a graduate of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, recently moved from litigation practice to property law.

She was the Chief Executive Officer of Croston Homes and co-founder, City Building, a real estate and property development company.

But two days after the heartbreaking incident, the deceased mother, still believed that her daughter is in the house.

She ran out of the house claiming that she just saw her daughter in the house.
“I saw my child just now. Basira is outside,” she shouted. Mourners had to hold her and take her inside the house.

Already, the Lagos State government on Tuesday sent delegates to the Raheem’s residence to commiserate with them over the incident.

Led by the Lagos State Commissioner of Information, Gbenga Omotosho, the delegates arrived at exactly 1:42 pm on Tuesday.

They prayed for God's special protection upon the family at this period of mourning.
