The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has rejected the judgement of the Election Petitions Tribunal that nullified his election.
To this end, he described the verdict as a miscarriage of justice, with a promise to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal.
The tribunal sitting in Osogbo had on Friday sacked Adeleke as the elected governor of the state and declared Gboyega Oyetola as the winner of the June 16, 2022 Gubernatorial election.
Justice Tetsea Kume submitted that the governorship election was marred by over-voting in six Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
He stated that the certificate of return should be issued to Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) adding that the election failed to comply with the Electoral Act.
Speaking from his hometown, Ede on Friday, Gov Adeleke faulted the over-voting statement, describing it as an unfair interpretation against the will of majority of voters.
He pleaded with his supporters to remain calm, saying that he remained the duly elected winner of the July 16 election.
In a statement by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, the governor assured that he would do everything possible to retain the widely acclaimed mandate.
“I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done. Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate", he said.
