The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested some cartels across the country for allegedly hawking the redesigned naira notes.
This was even as the gangs were intercepted by the operatives of secret police during an operation.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Dr Peter Afunanya on Monday in Abuja, revealed that some bank officials were aiding the economic crime.
To this end, the service cautioned the currency racketeers to desist from such ignoble act, urging the regulatory authorities to step up their monitoring and supervisory roles to address the emerging trends.
He stated that the DSS had already ordered its commands and formations to spot all persons and groups engaged in the illegal sale of the notes.
The DSS spokesman urged anyone with useful information relating to the sales of the new currency to report to the relevant authorities.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Sunday extended the deadline for the exchange of old naira notes to Friday, February 10, 2023.
He also approved a seven-day grace period beginning from February 10 to 17, in compliance with Sections 20 (3) and 22 of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act.
