How NAF Aircraft Displaced 8,000 Persons In Niger Community

At least, 8,150 persons were displaced when an aircraft belonging to Nigeria Air Force (NAF) bombed Galadima Kogo community in Niger State.

Many vigilantes' including the Commander of the group were also injured during the incident.

This was even as a good number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who lived in the location were also killed.

BOblog had reported that several people died on January 24, 2023 when a strange aircfraft bombed Vigilance members at Galadima Kogo community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Secretary to Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Matane confirmed in Minna on Saturday that the aircraft belonged to NAF, who were unaware that security personnel were in the area.

He noted that it was not a mysterious aircraft as being speculated in the media, adding that government was also aware of the presence of IDPs in the area.

Matane said that government had discussed with Shiroro Local Government Council officials and the management of the North South Power (NSP) facilities that provided shelter for the IDPs.

“We are doing assessment to deal with the matter and we are also dealing with the issue of those who lost their lives from the angle of security personnel that were accidentally affected.

“We have recorded some deaths and are attending to the injured in hospitals", he added.
The scribe hinted that government is packaging relief materials that would be shared to the victims and also provide security at the IDPs camps.

One of the displaced victims, Hajiya Rabi Musa said that the residents saw the aircraft flying through on Tuesday and suddenly heard a very loud noise that shook the area.

“Many of our people were killed, aside the vigilante members. We ran to take shelter at the NSP facilities; right now, no single person is left in our community; it is deserted.

“Since we came here, nobody came to our aid; not even a single government official. We don’t have water to drink, not even to take our bath; we are suffering,’’ she said.

The Youth Leader in Galadima Kogo, Malam Ibrahim Bahago stated that the community members were informed on Tuesday that bandits were hovering in the area.

He lamented that the vigilantes' headed towards the location alongside other security operatives but were ambushed.

“Our vigilantes' were ambushed and the next thing we heard was a very loud sound and it was a bomb thrown at the vigilantes' protecting us. Many of them died", he added.
Bahago accused the state government of neglecting the victims and leaving them to their fate.
