Army Seeks Partnership With Media In Tackling Insurgency

The Nigerian Army has sought for more partnership with the media in tackling insurgency nationwide.

Theartre Commander, North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, stated this during interface with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) Borno State Council on Tuesday in Maiduguri. 

He noted that collaboration is imperative towards achieving lasting successes in the fight against insurgency, describing the media as critical stakeholders especially in the counter- insurgency operation.

“My predecessor told me how the media played a critical role in ensuring patriotic and unbiased reportage which assisted our operations.

“Also, we are both playing the same role towards restoration of peace in the North East and I want you to sustain these efforts.

“We are seeking for your enhanced synergy as this fight cannot be done from the military alone," he added. 

This, he said was the reason that the Nigerian Army  changed the name from Operation Lafiya Dole to Operation Hadin Kai.

Ali assured of his readiness to brainstorm with the media on issues related to national security that would be helpful to the operations. 

He pleaded with the media to always balance their reports on issues that needed clarification.

The Chairman of the Council, Dauda Illiya, disclosed  that non-kinetic approach is critical to winning the war against insurgency.

He informed that journalists working in the theatre of operation were enjoying cordial relationship with the military as against previous years when there was skirmishes.

Illiya commended the military authorities for honouring the media and encouraged them to sustain periodic engagement with journalists to attain more feat.

Emerging Diseases: EHCON Faults Health Workers For Neglecting PPEs
