He revealed that the bus which the candidate used for his campaign was also set ablaze as persons inside it were  burnt beyond recognition.

The source said: “They have assassinated Oyibo Chukwu! He was killed inside his campaign vehicle, a Sienna bus.

“We finished campaign in parts of Nkanu West and the assailants trailed him as he was heading home, attacked and killed him.”

Hoodlums also attacked one of the campaign vehicles belonging to the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Enugu North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ofor Chukwuegbo, on the same route.

The driver of the vehicle was reportedly burnt to death.

Spokesperson of Enugu Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the attack.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani has launched manhunt for the criminals.

The statement reads: "Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani, fdc, has ordered the intensification of the discreet investigations and manhunt of the subversive criminal elements, suspected to be IPOB/ESN renegades, who in the night hours of 22/02/2023 at different locations, ambushed and simultaneously attacked and murdered People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) members, and also attempted to attack the convoy of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate,".
