22 Months After, Bandits Free Four Kebbi College Students

At least four out of the remaning 11 students of Federal Government College (FGC) Birnin-Yauri, Kebbi State have been released  by bandits 22 months after their abduction.

Those freed are Faiza Ahmed, Bilha Musa, Hafsat Murtala and Rahama Abdullahi.

Bandits had on Thursday, June 17,  2021, abducted 96 students and eight teachers from the College. While many students were released to the state government in batches, 11 students were held hostage.

But the Chairman of Committee for the 11 abducted FGC, Binrin Yauri students, Alhaji Salim Ka’one confirmed in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday that four of the students regained their freedom.

He said that in the past three months, the committee had raised an appeal fund to enable them gather money to secure the release of the students.

Ka’one hinted that the committee used the money they received through the apppel fund in addition to their personal money to free the four girls.

“This means we have been able to secure the release of only four out of the 11 students remaining in captivity.

“The joy is that these four students are right now in Kebbi Government House very safe and sound,” he added.

The chairman disclosed that the parents of the remaining seven students are still in the bush negotiating with the bandits for their release.

Mother of one of the freed students, Mrs Munira Bala-Ngaski, thanked God for the release of her daughter by the abductors.

She  passionately begged Nigerians to assist in securing the release of the remaining seven students by donating to the committee.

“I spent three months having sleepless nights when Faiza Ahmed was in captivity in the hands of the bandits.

“My prayer is that all the remaining students will by God’s grace, be released in time and in good health back to their parents,” she said.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi Police Command (PPRO) SP Nafi’u Abubakar confirmed that the four students had regained freedom.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
