Eight Abducted Kaduna Students Escape From Terrorists' Den


At least, eight abducted female students of Government Secondary School, Awon in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have escaped from terrorists' den. 

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, had on Monday, April 3, 2023, announced that bandits kidnapped eight secondary school students at Awon in Kachia LGA alongside other residents. 

He had stated that the students were not kidnapped within the school premises, but on their way home from school when they came in contact with the bandits, who had abducted other residents. 

But the commissioner on Tuesday, said that eight students escaped from the kidnappers den after spending almost 14 days with their captors in a thick forest bordering Kaduna and Niger states. 

He noted that the students trekked for days before arriving at an undisclosed location (name withheld for security reasons) where they were sheltered before alerting the state government.

Aruwan stated that Governor Nasir El-Rufai on receiving intelligence report, directed the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to liaise with the 1 Division, Nigerian Army, for urgent evacuation of the students to Kaduna metropolis. 

He said: “The eight female students of Government Secondary School, Awon, who were kidnapped by terrorists on Monday, April 3, 2023, in the Awon general area of Kachia LGA – have escaped from the terrorists’ den. 

“The students, according to preliminary briefings, escaped from a thick forest around the Kaduna-Niger interstate boundaries, and walked for days before arriving at a location (kept undisclosed for security reasons) where they were harboured. Human intelligence sources subsequently alerted the Kaduna State Government for immediate evacuation. 

“The students have been safely evacuated to a military facility where they are presently receiving medical attention."

Aruwan informed that Governor El-Rufai was excited over the development, just as he lauded the students for demonstrating sheer courage and resilience in escaping from captivity.

Emerging Diseases: EHCON Faults Health Workers For Neglecting PPEs

Video: Civil Servants Write Promotional Exams In Darkness

Staff of Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Abuja are currently writing their promotional examination in darkness.  In the 11 seconds video, the civil servants were seen writing the examination with torchlight and assistive light from their phones.  Findings revealed that the hall, which has poor lighting and ventilation compelled staff battling with poor eyesight to struggle to read the examination.  Regretably, the question papers were not typed but hand written, photocopied and distributed to the civil servants.  An eyewitness told News Rider that the promotional exams earlier scheduled for November 9, 2023 by 10am, started at the Conference Hall, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Phase 1, Federal Secretariat Abuja.
