INEC Declares Fintiri Winner Of Prolonged Adamawa Guber Election

        Governor Ahmadu Fintiri

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the prolonged Adamawa Gubernatorial election.

Fintiri polled 430,788 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sen. Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 398,788 votes.

News Rider reports that INEC had fixed April 15, 2023, for supplementary election following the declaration of the March 18, governorship election in the state as inconclusive.

INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Mohammed Mele, who announced the result on Tuesday in Yola, said that the supplementary election was conducted in 69 polling units across 20 Local Government Areas of the state.

He said: "Ahmadu Fintiri of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes in the election is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.

News Rider gathered that the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Adamawa State, Malam Hudu Yunusa-Ari had on Sunday, April 16, 2023, shunned Prof Kyari, to announce Binani as winner of the rerun election while results were collated only in 11 out of 20 Local Government Areas.

This singular action compelled INEC to suspend the collation of results for Saturday, April 15, 2023, supplementary election in the state, a situation that caused uproar among the residents.

The commission however nullified the pronouncement and  proceeded with the collation of results days after.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
