Seven Roasted, 14 Injured On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

At least seven persons were burnt to death and 14 others sustained injuries in a lone autocrash around OPIC on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The incident occured at about 10:45am on Sunday when a Mazda bus with registration number BDG 993 YG, carrying 22 persons lost control due to excessive speeding. 

An eyewitness said that the driver of the vehicle was overspending, a situation that led to brake failure. 

He noted that as soon as the drive was unable to control the steering, the vehicle hit the road divider, somersaulted and went up in flames.

 Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun state, Mrs Florence Okpe confirmed the accident.

She disclosed that the 22 persons comprised of seven men, eight women, four male children and three female children.

Okpe said that the 14 injured persons were four men, five women, two male children and three female children.

She hinted that the seven persons burnt to death were two men, three women and two children.

The officer explained that the injured were taken to Lagos State Accident Emergency center, Ojota, while the deceased were deposited at Olabisi Onabajo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Morgue, Sagamu.

She commiserated with the families of the victims, just as she advised motorists to avoid over speeding  and carryout routine checks on their vehicles.   

Okpe enjoined motorists to maintain and replace any defective parts inside the vehicles before hitting the road.

EHCON Seals Deal With SEPHON, EPHPAN, WAHEB To Revamp Environmental, Public Health
