Governor Aminu Tambuwal
The incumbent Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has won the Saturday, April 15, 2023, supplementary election for Sokoto South Senatorial District.
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for the Sokoto South Senatorial District, Prof. Abubakar Bagudo, made the announcement on Sunday in Sokoto State.
Tambuwal, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, polled 100, 860 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sen. Ibrahim Danbaba of All Progressive Congress (APC) who scored 95, 884 votes.
Bagudo declared that the election was contested by Muhammad Faruk of ADC; Abdullahi Danbaba, APC; Umar Rabiu, APGA and Umar Abubakar of LP.
Others were Aliyu Sayyinna, NNPP; Hudu Sa’idu, NRM; Labbo Bala, SDP and Muhammad Bashir, ZLP.
Bagudo said, "Tambuwal having satisfied the requirements of law have been declared winner and returned elected".
News Rider reports that the February 25, 2023, National Assembly elections in the state was declared inconclusive, prompting INEC to fix April 15, for the supplementary elections.
Sen. Aliyu Wamakko
The APC's Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, was also returned as the winner of Sokoto North Senatorial District election.
Returning Officer for Sokoto North Senatorial District, Prof. Ibrahim Magawata, announced that Wamakko won the Saturday’s rerun election for his district with 141,448 votes.
He defeated the candidate of the PDP, Muhammadu Dan’Iya, who polled 118,445 votes.
“Magatakarda Aliyu Wamakko of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner of the election, and returned elected,” Magawata added.
In addition, the PDP's Abdussamad Dasuki was also returned as the winner for Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal constituency election.
Returning Officer of Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal constituency, Prof. Abubakar Muhammad made the declaration on Sunday.
Dasuki polled 47,317 votes to beat the candidate of the APC, Bala Kokani, who scored 34, 282 votes.
