Vote-buying: EFCC Deploys 100 Operatives For Kano, Katsina, Jigawa Supplementary Polls



Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has deployed 100 armed operatives to combat vote-buying during the Saturday, April 15, 2023, supplementary elections in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States. 

In an interview with newsmen on Friday, Kano Zonal Commander of EFCC, Mr Farouk Dogondaji, said that 20 personnel were deployed to monitor the state Assembly elections in Kafur and Kankara, Katsina. 

He stated that adequate personnel were also deployed to monitor the exercise in Tudun Wada/Doguwa, and Takai federal constituencies of Kano state.

Dogondaji hinted that other personnel were deployed for house of Assembly elections in Katsina and Jigawa to prevent vote buying.

The zonal commander informed that EFCC deployed officers to Malam Aminu Kano International airport and other metropolis in Kano to arrest vote-buyers. 

He assured that EFCC would be present in all the polling units in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa during and after the elections.

Dogondaji disclosed that officers would be strategically positioned at the collation centres to prevent individuals from tempering with results from the Local Government Areas in the affected states. 

This, he said would be done alongside state security agencies towards providing peaceful atmosphere for eligible voters to elect their leaders. 

He noted that the deployment is part of the commission’s commitment towards facilitating credible and transparent elections in the zone.

The zonal commander stated that the EFCC had adopted measures that would make it difficult for any person or group to tamper with election results. .

Dogondaji pleaded with the personnel to be diligent and exhibit professionalism in carrying out the national assignment.

He was optimistic that the presence of EFCC operatives would add value to the electoral process by preventing vote - buying and change of results at collation centres.

The zonal commander cautioned parents to avoid allowing  their children to be used as political thugs, saying that anyone found wanting would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

EHCON Unveils Technology To Phase-out Emissions, Protect Public Health
