       Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola

The Federal Government has declared Monday, May 1, 2023, as a public holiday in commemoration of Workers Day Celebration.

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, stated this on Friday in Abuja, just as he congratulated workers across the country on this year’s occasion.

He praised workers for their hard work, diligence and sacrifice, adding that their efforts are largely responsible for the greatness and respect Nigeria now commands in the comity of nations.

Aregbesola pleaded with workers to embrace productivity, noting that productivity leads to satisfactory provision of goods and services and wealth creation.

While saying that productivity is the path to national and individual prosperity, the minister stated that there is dignity in labour, which is vital to nation building.

He urged workers to increase the tempo in their different areas of specialty in line with President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s drive to upgrade governance and make all Nigerians derive maximum benefit from the nation.

The minister assured Nigerians that the APC-led administration is fully committed to the security of life and property of every citizen and foreigners in the country and would not rescind its decision, even as the administration winds down.

He lauded all the security agencies for the successes recorded in the fight against criminals across the country, encouraging them not to relent in flushing out criminals in the country.

Aregbesola called on Nigerians to be part of the nation’s security architecture by being vigilant and reporting suspicious individuals and activities to law enforcement agencies nearest to them, adding that security is everybody’s responsibility.

The minister informed Nigerians to report security threats by making use of the N-Alert Application on Android and iOS.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
