Court Nullifies Election Of Alex Otti, Other LP Candidates In Abia, Kano ***LP Describes Verdict As Laughable

       Dr Alex Otti

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has nullified the election of the Abia State Governor-elect, Dr Alex Otti.

This is even as the court presided over by Justice M N Yunusa also nullified the election of all Labour Party (LP) flagbearers in Abia and Kano states.

Yunusa ruled on Friday that the emergence of Otti and others was not in compliance with the 2022 Electoral Act provisions.

This comes against the backdrop of Suit No FHC/KN/CS/107/2023, filed by one Mr Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim against the LP and Independent National Electoral Commission.

“The party that has not complied with the provisions of the electoral act cannot be said to have candidate in an election and cannot be declared winner of an election; this being so, the votes credited to the 1st defendant is a wasted vote,” the judge said.

Yunusa noted that the failure of the LP to submit its membership register to the INEC within 30 days before their primaries rendered the process invalid.

Reacting, the LP Chairman in Abia State, Hon. Ceekay Igara described the court’s verdict as  laughable.

He enjoined party stalwarts and other supporters to proceed for their normal activities, adding that only the tribunal is empowered to sack Otti.

“It is not just a court that will remove someone who was duly elected. Infact, I am going to gear up activities for the inauguration”, he added.
