The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, over misappropriation of funds.
Other offences hanging on Ortom's head include money laundering and abuse of office during his eight-year tenure, between 29th May 2015 and 29th May 2023, as the state helmsman.
News Rider reports that Ortom arrived at the Makurdi zonal office of the anti-graft agency, located at Alor Gordon Street, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
He was accompanied by his former Special Adviser on Media and ICT, Terver Akase and former Principal Special Assistant on Special Duties, Mr. Abraham Kwaghngu.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity said: “Former governor Ortom is currently at our Makurdi zonal office in Benue State. He arrived at about 10 a.m. this morning, and he’s still there now.
He was invited over an ongoing investigation concerning alleged misappropriation of funds during his time in office."
As at the time of filing this report, EFCC is yet to release an official statement about Ortom's arrest.
