Worried by the hike in price of petroleum products, the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) has taken steps toward establishing petrol to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centres in all its service centres before the end of 2023.
With over 200 percent increase in petrol, IVM is currently converting only vehicles produced by the company from petrol to CNG in order to suit the current economic situation, triggered by the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Head of Corporate Communications at Innoson Group, Mr Cornel Osigwe said on Monday in Onitsha, Anambra State that cars or vehicles converted to CNG are more environmentally friendly, more durable and easier to maintain than petrol vehicles.
He noted that gas is cheaper than petrol, adding that Nigeria has large deposit of gas.
Osigwe pleaded with automobile companies to take advantage of the opportunities created by CNG and invest in Nigeria so as to bolster the economy.
When asked about the cost of converting a car or vehicle from fuel or diesel to a CNG, he stated that the price would likely shrink automatically if there is huge demand for CNG cars.
He insisted that an average vehicle user can afford the conversion price.
