NEMA Donates Relief Materials To Katsina Flood Victims

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated relief materials to flood victims in 22 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Katsina State.

At the distribution of support materials to the victims on Friday, NEMA's Distribution Supervisor, Hajiya Ummuna Ahmed, noted that the special intervention was meant to cushion the impact of the disaster.

The relief materials are grinding machines, sewing machines, water pumping machines, insecticides and pesticides, mattresses, bed sheets, mats, rice and cooking oil.

Ahmed hinted that the agency had sustained awareness among the people living in flood-
prone areas on the need to be extra vigilant and prepared for possible flooding during the rainy season.

She enjoined them to relocate from the lower ground to higher ground for their safety, adding that the beneficiaries of the relief materials were carefully selected from the affected LGAs.

The supervisor classified the beneficiaries as the most vulnerable victims of the 2022 flood.

Receiving the items on behalf of the State Government, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari, described the agency’s intervention as a welcome development.

Faskari commended the Federal Government for complementing the state's efforts toward alleviating the sufferings of the flood victims.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Hajiya Binta Dangani, advised the beneficiaries not to sell the items.

Dangani recalled that SEMA recently distributed relief items such as building materials, comprising cement and roofing sheets worth over N50 million to at least 600 victims of the recent flooding in seven LGAs in the state.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
