NNPP: Crisis Deepens As Kwankwaso-led Faction Expells BoT Chairman, Others

The crisis rocking the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) deepened on Tuesday when former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso-led faction of the party expelled the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) Dr Boniface Aniebonam and other national officers for allegedly  engaging in anti-party activities.

Aside Aniebonam, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Agbo Major and other officials were caught up in the crisis.

At the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, the National Legal Adviser, Mr Robort Hon accused them of sabotaging NNPP, adding that Aniebonam created a parallel group, with the aim of  causing disunity in the party.

Those in attendance were the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf; Acting National Chairman, Malam Abah-Kawu Ali; Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Hon Jibrin Isma'l Falgore and many others.

Hon noted that the NEC also moved several other motions relating to the Logo of the party, amendment of the constitution, ratification of the state caretaker committees and suspension of two Articles in the constitution of the NNPP 2022.

He hinted that the expelled persons purportedly held a Board of Trustees meeting in Apapa, Lagos on Tuesday morning, August 29, 2023, saying that the meeting was null and void and had no effect.

The legal adviser disclosed that the party’s NEC upheld motions to extend the tenure of the acting national chairman, Malam Abah-Kawu Ali and to redesign the party’s logo.
Governor Yusuf assured that he would continue to work closely with Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso in his efforts to reposition the NNPP.

The National Secretary of NNPP, Mr Olayoku Dipo said that the party is in the process of setting up a properly constituted BoT in line with its constitution.

Dipo stated that the party’s leadership are making plans to change NNPP’s logo, saying that the party’s fortune at the 2023 general elections was affected by the current logo.

The NNPP BoT Secretary, Buba Galadima commended the party’s NWC for its role in stabilising the party.

Recall that the Aniebonam-led faction of NNPP had suspended the party’s Presidential Candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso at its meeting in Lagos.

The Secretary of the BoT, Malam Babayo Abdullahi, who made the announcement, revealed that Kwankwaso was suspended for six months over anti-party activities
Abdullahi also announced the suspension of the NWC of the party.

He noted that members of the party voted for the  suspension at a special general assembly in Lagos.

To that effect, the BoT appointed new national officers headed by Dr Agbo Major as acting National Chairman and Comrade Ogini Olaposi as acting National Secretary, alongside 18 others.
