102, 650 Edo Indigenes To Receive Conditional Cash Transfer

At least, 102, 650 indigenes of Edo State  across 1,969 communities in the 18 Local Government Areas will benefit from the second phase of the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer.

The funds disbursed under the Renewed Hope Cash Transfer (RHCT) programme was designed for the poor and vulnerable people including Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs).

General Manager of Social Investment Programme (SIP) in the state, Ms Yuwa Aladeselu stated this on Wednesday at a one-day refresher training for local government cash transfer facilitators in Benin.

Aladeselu noted that the Federal Government’s RHCT programme is implemented under the National Social Safety Nets Project Scale Up (NASSP-SU).

She informed that Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo is always ready to key into any profitable intervention programme that would provide succour for the poor and vulnerable in the state.

The general manager disclosed that Edo state has a social register of over 1.6 million persons, adding that about 314,000 households were captured in the register.

Head of Unit, Edo State Cash Transfer, Flora Bossey recalled that over 12,108 beneficiaries were enrolled and paid in 2022 during the first phase of the programme in the state.

She said that the programme is implemented in line with the vision of the Federal Government to provide support for over 15 million poor and vulnerable Nigerians under the Expanded National Social Safety Nets Programme Scale-up.

Bossey noted that the Expanded National Social Safety Nets Programme Scale-up was designed for the existing cash transfer beneficiaries to help them recover from the economic shock caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

Enrolment Officer of National Cash Transfer Office, Mr Mohammed Adams hinted that the essence of the training was to enable the facilitators to rightly capture the biodata of the 101, 404 registered persons.

He said that the training was to properly enrol registered persons to receive the renewed hope cash transfer.

Adams emphasised that through the payment delivery mechanism, payments would be  delivered to the eligible beneficiaries directly into their accounts and wallets at the right time.

“All the beneficiaries will receive their funds directly interoperable transactional accounts/wallets thus, leading to significant financial inclusion of the beneficiaries.

“We all know that times are hard; this intervention is to deliver support to those who need it most,” he added.
