Wuse Shooting: NCoS Condoles Family Of Deceased Inmate

Shops on fire following the killing of a hawker by Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) at Wuse market in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has condoled with the family of the deceased inmate who was shot by a personnel at Wuse market, Abuja.

News Rider reports that a 27-year-old convict, Ibrahim Yahaya was shot on Tuesday, March 12, after he allegedly jumped from the vehicle conveying him to prison in a bid to escape.

Yahaya was apprehended by Task Force of Abuja Environmental Protection Board, tried and convicted by a Mobile Court sitting in Wuse Market.

But an eyewitness said that Yahaya, who was a hawker at the market was arrested by some task force officials and the police.

He stated that the hawker was shot while trying to escape from custody.

The killing led to a protest as angry mob attacked a police station in the market, destroyed windows and burnt down eight cars and 10 shops.

Public Relations Officer of NCoS FCT Command, Mr Samson Duza on Wednesday in Abuja, described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable.

He noted that the officer acted within the precinct of the law to prevent the inmate from escaping.

The spokesperson hinted that Section 20 of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019 empowers correctional officers to use firearm to disable an escaping inmate.

He lamented that in the process of disabling the said escapee, he lost his life.

Duza assured the public of the safe and secure custody of all those legally interned as well as the humane treatment of all inmates in its custody.

“The Service wishes to sympathise with all those who incurred losses as a result of the pandemonium that followed,” he added.

He disclosed that the situation is under control, advising all the residents to go about their normal businesses.

EHCON Unveils Technology To Phase-out Emissions, Protect Public Health

Tagged Oxytane Fuel Additive, it is designed to enhance engine performance, increase fuel efficiency by over 25 percent, and reduce harmful emissions by up to 70 percent. It has been tested on high-capacity generators, including at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation. Oxytane works by cleaning fuel injectors, removing carbon deposits, and improving combustion in petrol, diesel, and kerosene engines. It is used for personal vehicles, generators, and industrial equipment.
