Democracy Day: FG Declares Wednesday Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, June 12, 2024, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Democracy Day.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement on Tuesday, just as he congratulated Nigerians on the occasion.

News Rider reports that former President Muhammadu Buhari had in 2018 moved the Democracy Day from May 29 to June 12 in honour of late Chief M.K.O Abiola. 

This, he did to remind Nigerians that the late Abiola and other heroes sacrificed their lives to birth a new Nigeria, while it was also a time to celebrate the freedom and unity of the country. 

The democracy day was also reviewed to inform Nigerians about one free election, which the presumed winner (MKO Abiola) along with Nigerians were denied their rights and choice.

Tunji-Ojo said: "As we mark another Democracy day in the history of our dear country, let us all reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secured, peaceful and indivisible entity."

 He enjoined Nigerians to remain steadfast on the tenets of democratic governance.
The minister reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to positive reforms to revive the nation’s economy and enhance security.

He called on Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to appreciate the progress that has been made, and look forward to a better future for Nigeria’s Democracy.

This year's democracy day marked the second celebration for President Bola Tinubu, who was sworn in as the Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 29, 2023, amid pomp and pageantry.

EHCON Unveils Technology To Phase-out Emissions, Protect Public Health

BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja The Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) has unveiled a technology meant to phase-out Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and protect public health from emerging diseases, in line with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.  Tagged Oxytane Fuel Additive, it is designed to enhance engine performance, increase fuel efficiency by over 25 percent, and reduce harmful emissions by up to 70 percent. It has been tested on high-capacity generators, including at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation. Oxytane works by cleaning fuel injectors, removing carbon deposits, and improving combustion in petrol, diesel, and kerosene engines.
