Eid-el-Kabir: Gap Between Rich, Poor Inexplicable, Kingibe Laments

Senator Ireti Kingibe

As Muslims joined other faithful worldwide to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe has lamented that the gap between the rich and poor in Nigeria is inexplicable.

To this end, she enjoined the rich to make meaningful sacrifices to reduce the vast gap, adding that some valuables must be shelved for meaningful progress and other considerations.

While wishing Nigerians especially Muslims a peaceful and unifying Eid-el-Kabir celebration, she pleaded with the affluent in the society to allow the poor in their midst to breathe.

In a statement issued by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Kennedy Mbele on Sunday in Abuja, the Senator enjoined Nigerians, especially leaders to reflect and emulate Prophet Ibrahim’s virtues of sacrifice.

Kingibe stated that there is an inherent lesson to learn in the manner the holy Prophet Mohammed wanted to sacrifice his only son, Issah, without hesitation and how Allah subsequently blessed him exceedingly; making him the father of all nations.

She prayed for the safety of all faithful on pilgrimage in Mecca, just as she praised her constituents for their accommodating nature.

The senator informed that being another’s keeper is imperative in achieving peace anywhere, especially in a heterogeneous setting like the nation’s capital, Abuja.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
