Journalists, FCT Sports Director Consolidate On Upcoming Tournament

Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have reached a consensus with the Director of Sports, FCT Sports Council, Mr Luka Istifanus on the upcoming football tournament.

This formed part of the deliberation when FCT Correspondents Chapel led by its Chairman, Comrade Jide Oyekunle visited the director on Friday in Abuja. 

The visit is part of preparations ahead of the 2nd edition of the football tournament billed to take place in the nation's capital. 

Oyekunle noted that a pre-tournament press conference and draws will hold on June 18, 2024 at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, adding that the Ambassador of the tournament will be unveiled officially at the event. 

He stated that 14 organisations including Aiben, Federal High Court (FHC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have indicated interest to participate in the tournament. 

Others are Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited.

Also in the list are National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
Comrade Oyekunle disclosed that the idea behind the tournament is to promote friendliness among participating organisations.

“Given the nature of our job, we encounter personnel and members of participating organisations almost on a daily basis. It is therefore, incumbent to promote friendly relationships among us," he added. 

The sports director, who accepted the request of the Correspondents Chapel to take the ceremonial kick off of the tournament, commended the Chapel for putting the tournament together.

He assured that the Old Parade Ground, venue of the tournament will be available for the competition. 

“The Old Parade Ground is constructed for sporting activities. We appreciate the work journalists do and understand the place of the press in society. We cannot deny you the use of the venue," Istifanus said.

In the delegation were Treasurer of the Chapel, Mr Emmanuel Ehijene of Plus TV Africa; Assistant Secretary of the Chapel, Mr Ediri Oyibo of TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) and Team Correspondents Medical Director, Ms Rity Ike of Portfolio Media.

National Parks Panacea In Mitigating Climate Change- Olory

Emerging Diseases: EHCON Faults Health Workers For Neglecting PPEs
