Evaluate Seyi Tinubu Based On Merit, COPAN Director Tells Nigerians

     Barr Seyi Tinubu

The Coordinator of the Conference of Patriotic Nigerians (COPAN) Barr. Odieli Uchenna has urged Nigerians to look beyond family ties and evaluate Barr. Seyi Tinubu’s performance based on merit.

He stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while reacting to controversies surrounding Seyi's presence at the swearing-in of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

Uchenna emphasized that the young lawyer has taken up responsibilities that would lead to massive transformation in the judiciary, adding that Seyi's contributions should not be misinterpreted due to his surname.

News Rider reports that at the swearing in of Justice Kekere-Ekun as the 23rd CJN on Friday, August 2024, Seyi was sighted in a place designated for cabinet members and top government functionaries.

Nigerians had since expressed dissatisfaction over Seyi's presence at the arena, while some lauded his bold moves meant to broaden his knowledge on judiciary issues.

But Uchenna described Seyi as a gifted lawyer, who was invited to participate in the office’s work, as his family's influence should not be a basis for his disqualification.

He pointed out that many elites and influential persons share their offices with family members, who contribute their expertise and experience toward the growth of their profession.

"Let us give him a fair chance to prove himself and avoid making assumptions based on his family relationship,” he added.

The CCOPAN coordinator also hailed the appointment of Justice Kekere-Ekun as well as the appointments of Ajayi and Mohammed as Directors-General of DSS and NIA respectively.

Uchenna pleaded with Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration in tackling poverty, insecurity and revamping the economy.

He maintained that the Nigerian project has come to stay through the Renewed Hope blueprint targeted at capacity building, education for all at all levels, power supply, security, infrastructural facelift, health care delivery, youth and women empowerment, diplomacy and promotion of unity.

The coordinator assured that the present economic hardship is a temporal issue and would phase-out soon
