INEC Declares APC’s Okpebholo Winner Of Edo Gubernatorial Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Monday Okpebholo as the winner of Saturday, September 21, 2024, Edo off-cycle gubernatorial election.

Okpebholo garnered 291,667 votes to beat his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 247, 274 votes.

The flag bearer of Labour Party (LP) Barr Olumide Akpata finished third with a total of 22,763.

Fourteen other candidates contested the seat but secured few votes compared to the three major contenders.

INEC's Returning Officer for Edo election, Prof Faruk Kuta announced that Okpebholo garnered the highest number of votes at the collation centre in Benin City, the state capital on Sunday.

"That Okpebholo Monday of APC having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected," he said.

Kuta is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, in Niger State.

With the victory, Okpebholo, who is currently the Edo Central Senator has declared his seat vacant at the National Assembly.

EHCON Unveils Technology To Phase-out Emissions, Protect Public Health

BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja The Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) has unveiled a technology meant to phase-out Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and protect public health from emerging diseases, in line with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Tagged Oxytane Fuel Additive, it is designed to enhance engine performance, increase fuel efficiency by over 25 percent, and reduce harmful emissions by up to 70 percent. It has been tested on high-capacity generators, including at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation. Oxytane works by cleaning fuel injectors, removing carbon deposits, and improving combustion in petrol, diesel, and kerosene engines. It is used for personal vehicles, generators, and industrial equipment.
