Umahi Pledges Speedy Implementation Of Civil Service Roadmap

Staff of the Federal Ministry of Works at a one-day Management Retreat on  FCSSIP25 in Abuja on Wednesday. 

The Minister of Works, Engr Dave Umahi has pledged speedy implementation of the Federal Civil Service roadmap in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu-led administration. 

This was even as he noted that since the ministry is a prominent player in the delivery of Federal Government's policies, plans, programmes and projects, that it would lead the institutionalisation of the roadmap. 

He made the pledge on Wednesday in Abuja, at a one-day Management Retreat on FCSSIP25 organised by the ministry with the theme: “Specific Roles of Heads of Department in the Implementation of FCSSIP25."

Tagged: 'The Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021- 2025 (FCSSIP 25)', the guideline contains a Performance Management System (PMS) for the appraisal of Federal Government workers. 

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Yakubu Kofarmata, the minister reiterated the commitment of the ministry towards the actualisation of government’s reform initiatives. 

He listed the initiatives as digital inclusion, staff performance assessment, reward and recognition system for outstanding performance, staff capacity development and introduction of innovative competition/challenge to harness the capacity of staff.

While declaring the retreat open, the minister urged  participants to ensure full compliance with their assigned duties in accordance with FCSSIP25 and also pay attention to the lectures.

The Director of Reform Coordination and Service Improvement, Mrs Charlotte Ibekwe stated that the ministry’s decision to bring together heads of departments and units was to get them acquainted with their responsibilities toward the full realisation of the FCSSIP25.

She highlighted the activities lined up to deepen their understanding of FCSSIP25 as ministerial innovation challenge, development partners’ conference on innovation, customer satisfaction survey on projects, and annual reward and recognition ceremony.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack acknowledged the numerous achievements of the Federal Ministry of Works in the implementation of FCSSIP25 as Performance Management System (PMS); innovation, rewards and recognition system, and digitalisation. 

Walson-Jack, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of Service Policies and Strategies Office, HCSF, Dr. Deborah Odoh introduced the new service change song,  meant to unite the workforce and redirect it to a culture of accountability, meritocracy, professionalism, loyalty and efficiency.

The Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr. Dasuki Arabi reiterated the need for the ministry to key into the reforms for effective service delivery and good governance.

Emerging Diseases: EHCON Faults Health Workers For Neglecting PPEs

Video: Civil Servants Write Promotional Exams In Darkness

Staff of Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Abuja are currently writing their promotional examination in darkness.  In the 11 seconds video, the civil servants were seen writing the examination with torchlight and assistive light from their phones.  Findings revealed that the hall, which has poor lighting and ventilation compelled staff battling with poor eyesight to struggle to read the examination.  Regretably, the question papers were not typed but hand written, photocopied and distributed to the civil servants.  An eyewitness told News Rider that the promotional exams earlier scheduled for November 9, 2023 by 10am, started at the Conference Hall, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Phase 1, Federal Secretariat Abuja.
