As part of plans to implement the Circular Economy model, the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) has concluded plans to green Nigeria's economy by harnessing environmental health value chains that would bolster employment opportunities through Digital Data Center.
Registrar of EHCON, Dr Yakubu Baba stated this on Wednesday while speaking to newsmen on the sideline of the unveiling of EHCON's Electronic Documentation Management Center (EDMC) in Abuja.
News Rider reports that the state-of-the-art electronic data centre will support evidence-based policymaking, enhance research, and foster collaboration with international partners in tackling environmental challenges.
The project was conceptualised as a child of necessity considering the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President that is targeted at efficient service delivery.
Baba stated that the actual migration of environmental health services from analogue to digital was actualised by the Minister of Environment, Alhaji Balarabe Abbas Lawal through President Bola Tinubu.
He noted that leveraging on Mr President's ambitious plans to reduce cost of governance, the council approached the World Bank through ACReSAL, which is also part of the legacies of the minister of environment.
Baba maintained that the centre will reduce the long hours spent by civil servants in the office, saying that EHCON staff could stay at the comfort of their rooms and carry out their tasks by utilising digital services provided by the centre.
"The centre will provide a centralized platform to gather, store, and manage environmental health data, ensuring that stakeholders across all levels—federal, state, and local government- have access to reliable and up-to-date information.
"The centre will serve as a hub for training, fostering a culture of innovation among environmental health professionals, and equipping them with the tools needed to address contemporary challenges.
Baba noted that the data centre is a digital investment for the nation, designed to support all stakeholders in making informed decisions that would safeguard the environment and promote public health.
He noted that President Tinubu's renewed hope agenda mandated all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government to migrate to digital platform.
The registrar said that the importance of digitalisation is improved service delivery and efficiency, adding that henceforth, license renewals for individuals and corporate bodies will be done within 24 hours while registration will be concluded within 48 hours.
Minister of Environment, Alhaji Balarabe Abbas Lawal urged EHCON to continue in its efforts to expand digital infrastructure, build capacities, and engage with stakeholders across all sectors.
He praised EHCON and all partners for the remarkable achievement, meant to reshape circular economy and introduce a greener and healthier environment for unborn generations.
The minister was optimistic that the centre will mark the beginning of a brighter future for Nigeria.
National Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, Mr. Abdulhamid Umar noted that the data system will enhance the services of EHCON, adding that health and safety centers need support.
The Project Consultant, Engr Ibrahim Abubakar hinted that the project will minimise carbon footprint and contribute in fighting climate change.
He pleaded with members of EHCON to upload their documents online, as it would be used for licensing and registration.
