The African Development Bank has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art building for its headquarters in Abidjan, the commercial nerve centre of Côte d’Ivoire.
AfDB's Boards of Directors stated this yesterday at a meeting for management staff in Côte d’Ivoire.

The executive directors informed that it was important for the bank to maintain its strong presence in Abidjan and invest in a work environment that supports the well-being of its staff.

President of AfDB Group and Chairman of the board of directors, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina described the decision as historic for the staff, bank, Cote d’Ivoire and Africa generally.

He noted that the decison sent a clear message that the AfDB being Africa’s premier financial institution, deserves a headquarters befitting its global status.

“This is a great day for the African Development Bank Group. It marks the realisation of a vision I had when I was elected as President in 2015 to work to put in place a suitable headquarters building for the bank in Abidjan.

"This is to reflect our collective aspiration to enhance our overall business operations, staff and board welfare, world-class workplace experience, and enhanced productivity of the bank, as we accelerate the development of Africa," Adesina added.

The new building will also provide enhanced facilities to receive and interact with shareholders and stakeholders, while aligning with the bank’s commitment to green the economy and provide efficient energy and safety measures.

Adesina thanked President Alassane Ouattara of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire and the government of Cote d’Ivoire for their strong support to the bank.

He noted that the decision taken during the meeting reflected the bank's desire to stay permanently in Cote d’Ivoire, just as he looked forward for the strong support of the Government of Cote d’Ivoire as the landmark project progresses.

The Dean of AfDB's board of directors, Adama Koné, who is the executive director representing Cote d’Ivoire on the board of Directors, showcased the title deed for the site approved by the government.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
