The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to providing quality infrastructure designed to improve the living conditions of Nigerians.
Minister of State for Works, Mohammad Bello Goronyo disclosed this on Tuesday at the commissioning of solar- powered streetlights along Sultan Abubakar International Airport Road in Sokoto State.
The streetlights will enhance visibility, improve the socio-economic wellbeing of the community, ease travel stress on road users, and mitigate security challenges.
While maintaining that the project is very strategic to travelers commuting from Sokoto to the adjoining Zamfara State, he stated that the project aligned with the vision of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He described the President as an astute and patriotic leader committed to ameliorating the living conditions of Nigerians, as well as rewriting the negative history of the country.
Tinubu congratulated the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and communities within the corridor for benefitting from the project, urging them to take ownership of the project and safeguard it against vandals.
Managing Director/CEO of Federal Road Management Agency (FERMA) Engr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi said that the iconic and strategic project will enhance travel experience and economy of the benefitting states.
Goronyo also commissioned Sokoto– Ilela road that was recently rehabilitated by FERMA. The 58 kilometres project links Sokoto to Niger Republic border.
The minister assured that the project will provide employment opportunities, and curb security threats.
He hinted that the palliative works were carried out using taxpayers’ money, warning that the government will not condone road users especially articulated vehicles damaging the project without repairing it.
"Vehicles found damaging the roads will be impounded and made to pay for it before they are released, to serve as deterrent to others, " he added.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry Mohammed Ahmed on Wednesday in Abuja.
