World leaders have been thrown into mourning and continued to pay glowing tributes following the death of Jimmy Carter on Sunday.
Carter, the former President of the United States of America died at the age of 100.
He passed away on Sunday afternoon at his home in Plains, Georgia.
The son of the ex-president, Chip Carter confirmed his father's death in a statement on Sunday, December 29, 2024.
He said: "My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.
"The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honouring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs."
Before his death, Carter, who was a former peanut farmer, was the longest ex-president that ever lived.
He celebrated his 100th birthday in October, 2024, two months before his death.
World Leaders Pay Tributes
The President of US, Joe Biden alongside his wife, Jill Biden said that the world lost an extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian.
Biden's described Carter as a dear friend and man of principle, faith and humility.
They said: "He showed that we are a great nation because we are good people – decent and honorable, courageous and compassionate, humble and strong."
President Biden stated that a state funeral would be held in Washington DC for Carter.
President-elect of US, Donald Trump noted that the challenges Carter faced stirred up at a pivotal time for the US.
Reacting via his social media handle, Trump insisted that Carter did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans.
"For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude," he said.
Carter's presidency encountered severe economic and foreign policy challenges, as well as the Iran hostage crisis that led to the death of eight Americans.
Another former President, Bill Clinton and wife, Hillary Clinton informed that Carter worked tirelessly for a better and fairer world.
They emphasised on his humanitarian, environmental and diplomatic efforts.
"Guided by faith, President Carter lived to serve others until the very end," they added.
Also, former President Barack Obama paid tribute to Carter's decency, noting that he taught everybody how to live a life of grace, dignity, justice, and service.
"Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to the Carter family, and everyone who loved and learned from this remarkable man," he added.
Republican former President, George W Bush, pointed out that Carter dignified the US White House and his efforts to leave behind a better world didn't end with the presidency.

Carter, who belonged to Democratic Party, served as president from 1977 to 1981.
But prior to his presidency, Carter was Governor of Georgia, a lieutenant in the US navy and a peanut farmer.
After leaving the White House, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian works, an accolade that restored his reputation.
As the oldest surviving US president, his wife, Rosalynn, who he was married to for 77 years, died in November 2023.
Regrettably, Carter stopped his medical treatment for an undisclosed illness in 2023 and started receiving hospice care at his home.
Carter Center, which advocates for democracy and human rights around the world, also confirmed that Carter died on Sunday afternoon at his home in Plains, Georgia.
The late former president is survived by four children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
