Roads: Edo Govt Praises FMW For Adopting Concrete Pavement Technology

BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja
L-R: Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi in a handshake with the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Monday Okpebholo during the latter's visit to the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja on Monday.

The Edo State government has lauded the tenacity of Federal Ministry of Works in adopting Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) technology for road construction.

This was even as the government praised the ongoing construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and emergency repairs of Federal roads in Edo State.

The Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Monday Okpebholo stated this on Monday in Abuja when he visited the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi to discuss recent developments in the state’s road infrastructure.

He was optimistic that the implementation of CRCP in key Federal projects has greatly enhanced the durability and performance of roads.

The governor said: "We have come to thank the minister for the excellent work he is doing in the state. Concrete technology is benefiting us and the country at large. We appreciate his efforts and that of the Federal Ministry of Works.

"With its continuous steel reinforcement, CRCP not only reduces maintenance needs but also extends the lifespan of roads. This is particularly crucial for a rapidly growing and increasingly urbanised state like Edo. Moreover, CRCP is especially beneficial in areas with high water table levels, as well as traffic volumes, thereby providing long-term advantages to motorists and commuters."

Minister of Works, Umahi appreciated the governor for recognising the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Works.

In addition, he congratulated Okpebholo on his recent electoral victory and wished him continued success in his political career.

Umahi emphasised the importance of sustainable infrastructure solutions like CRCP, adding that such innovations aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which seeks to enhance the nation’s road networks for accelerated economic development.

"The Federal Government remains committed to strengthening Edo State’s infrastructure through innovative technologies like CRCP. This commitment is integral to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises sustainable development for the benefit of all Nigerians," he said.

This was contained in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry, Mohammed Ahmed on Monday in Abuja.

EFCC: You Do Not Change A Winning Team

By Iliyasu Gashinbaki          Iliyasu Gashinbaki I have read the letter from the former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, addressed to the Chairmen of the Constitution Review Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly- Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.  I was looking for his prayers to the esteemed lawmakers on clear and unambiguous anomalies he observed in the Establishment Act of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that need legislative action in the review exercise. I must confess, I could not find any.  Instead, the legal luminary made a sweeping statement that is neither rooted in facts nor verifiable evidence that “I very strongly believe the EFCC is unconstitutionally established. The powers under which it was established go beyond the powers of the National Assembly. The EFCC is an unlawful organisation.” How? I have asked myself repeatedl...
