Media Bigwigs Promise Live Coverage For NUJ @70 Anniversary

As plans are underway for the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) 70th Anniversary, media Bigwigs have pledged live coverage for the landmark event. 

This was even as the Planning Committee of the anniversary on Thursday, commenced nationwide tour to media houses, advocating partnership and support for the forthcoming NUJ @70 celebration. 

Members of the committee, who visited TVC, Trust Media Group and Arise Television, were received by top management staff of the organisations. 

The Chairman of Planning Committee who doubles as the Deputy President of NUJ, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde commended the media houses for their laudable contributions and consistency in the industry, as well as their support for NUJ.

She remarked that the forthcoming 70th Anniversary of the Union is monumental as the event would be the first of its kind for the NUJ. 

Oyetunde explained that past heroes of the union, deserving individuals and corporate organisations, who have supported the union at various times, will be honoured during the anniversary. 

She stated that the NUJ has come a long way in the struggle for a better society and a greater country.

Oyetunde recalled how the NUJ was formed in 1955, saying that journalists in Nigeria have lived up to expectations In contributing to the growth of the society.

"Journalists have indeed championed the quest for entrenching democracy and the rule of law in the country, despite operating in a very harsh and hostile environment," she added.

The Deputy President appealed to the leadership of various Media outfits to ensure that NUJ @70 will be a resounding success by providing robust publicity.

In their various remarks, management of the organisations thanked the Planning Committee for the visits, stating that the union is worth celebrating at 70 for its doggedness and immense contribution to nation building. 

They pledged to continously  champion ethical journalism for the growth of the country. 

Head, TVC Abuja/Northern Operations, Ayodele Ozugbakun; Acting Editor-in-Chief of Daily Trust Group, Hamza Idris, and Deputy Managing Director of Arise TV, Adebayo Awosemo, promised good coverage for the historic event. 

The NUJ @70 visiting team includes the Committee Chairman, Dr Abimbola Oyetunde; a veteran journalist, Otunba Gbenga Onayiga;  Chairman of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike and Assistant National Secretary, Comrade Tita Onyebuchi Nze.

News Rider reports that the visiting team presented advocacy letters to the media houses. 

The NUJ @70 event is billed for Saturday, June 21, 2025.

EHCON Seals Deal With SEPHON, EPHPAN, WAHEB To Revamp Environmental, Public Health

CCB, NILDS Endorse CIFCFIN Agenda To Eliminate Fraud
