Survey Rates FERMA 70% On Roads Rehabilitation

BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja
A recent survey conducted by Global Information Team Nigeria has rated the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) 70 percent on roads rehabilitation nationwide.

The survey titled: "Public Office Performance Evaluation Report", was conducted by the Convener of Global Information Team Nigeria, Okechukwu Eze.

News Rider reports that FERMA was was established by Act No. 7 of 2002 and entrusted with the mandate of  monitoring and maintaining all Federal roads in Nigeria.

Eze disclosed that the survey captured respondents from the media, national assembly and general public, adding that it acknowledged the role of FERMA on speedy intervention of Federal roads.

He lauded FERMA for improving its relationship with the media, just as he noted that Nigerians are feeling the impact of FERMA nationwide.

Reacting, Minister of State for Works Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who supervises FERMA, enjoined the agency to open up more channels of communication and deliver on its mandate to the public.

He said: "Mass road rehabilitation are ongoing with some completed. Since the establishment of FERMA in 2002, the agency became more visible under President Bola Tinubu's administration and it is discharging its tasks without interference from the elites."

Goronyo recalled that during a meeting with the management of FERMA in 2024, he harped on the need for massive rehabilitation of Federal roads, which he believed yielded positive result, given the giant strides recorded by the agency.

Goronyo advocated for increased funding and budgetary allocation for the agency to enable them expand their services to other untouched parts of the country.

This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser Media to the  Minister of State for Works, Mr. Salihu Dantata Mahmud on Friday in Abuja.
