NAWOJ, NUJ Mourn Former FCT Chairperson, Stella Okoh-Esene

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has expressed profound sadness over the death of former Chairperson, FCT Chapter, Stella Okoh-Esene.

Until her death, Stella, a dedicated and committed journalist, worked with True Verdict Online Newspaper, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. 

The National Chairperson of NAWOJ,  Aisha Ibrahim said that Stella's passion for journalism and unwavering commitment to excellence inspired many.

She added: "We extend our deepest condolences to her family, particularly her daughter and loved ones. May her soul rest in peace, and may her legacy continue to inspire us.

"Stella's contributions to NAWOJ and the journalism fraternity will be greatly missed. We pray that her memory will motivate us to uphold the values of dedication, hard work, and professionalism she embodied."

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council also received with deep shock and sadness the news of the death of the former Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, Madam Stella Okoh-Esene.

She passed away on Monday October 6, 2025 at the National Hospital Abuja after a protracted illness. Until her demise, she retired from the Federal Ministry of Information and joined True Verdict Online Newspaper.

Stella, 64, hailed from Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.  
In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, he expressed the council’s heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues, and members of NAWOJ FCT chapter.

The NUJ FCT council described the late former chairperson as a dedicated and passionate media professional, whose contribution to the advancement of women journalists and the cause of ethical journalism will be remembered for years to come.

The statement reads: "The death of the veteran journalist is a monumental loss to the journalism profession, particularly women in the media who looked up to her as a trailblazer, mentor, and advocate for gender equity in the newsroom and society at large.

"NUJ FCT council is deeply pained by this loss. She was a pillar of strength and inspiration to many journalists, particularly the younger generation. Her leadership, courage, and commitment to the ideals of truth and fairness in journalism remain exemplary.

"Her death comes at a time when her experience and wisdom are most needed in the ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism and inclusivity in the Nigerian media landscape."

During her tenure as Chairperson, Stella demonstrated uncommon passion, professionalism, and commitment to advancing the cause of women journalists and promoting ethical journalism across the FCT and beyond.

The NUJ FCT council prayed for the repose of her soul and for God to grant her family and colleagues the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

EHCON Unveils Technology To Phase-out Emissions, Protect Public Health

BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja The Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) has unveiled a technology meant to phase-out Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and protect public health from emerging diseases, in line with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.  Tagged Oxytane Fuel Additive, it is designed to enhance engine performance, increase fuel efficiency by over 25 percent, and reduce harmful emissions by up to 70 percent. It has been tested on high-capacity generators, including at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation. Oxytane works by cleaning fuel injectors, removing carbon deposits, and improving combustion in petrol, diesel, and kerosene engines.
